The beginning of the festival dates back to 1917. Lake Kawaguchiko was poor attractive in those days as a tourist destination. Besides, it was a place to be able to go only by a horse tramway from Otsuki or Gotemba.

There was grand Shinto ritual called “Misogi Nagashi" that villagers carried a going exorcism rite paper by ship to the center of the lake and they light Chochins in the way back and come back to the shrine in the Kawaguchi-village. On the other hand, the Shimazu-ke of the Satsuma-Han with the dukedom built the first villa at Lake Kawaguchiko in 1913. By the reason of this event having greatly contributed to advertising of Lake Kawaguchiko, the Kawaguchiko-machi will launch the fireworks of thanks.

These two events were combined and developed into a big event of Lake Kawaguchiko which attract tourists.

It is held for two days of the beginning of August at the present time. There are “Yosakoi Soran Dance" and “fireworks of the eve" on the first day, and after having held “a special live" on the second day, the grand fireworks display is held.
