Gokakuido (Pentagon well)

Folklore historic spot of Fujikawaguchiko-machi

Wells are usually a quadrilateral or a circle, but there is unusually the pentagon well only in this place of the Kodachi district at the outskirts. There are four pails to draw water into, and it can be draw the water by two people at a time.

The depth of the well is approximately 10 meters. Water of well is not groundwater, water of Lake Kawaguchiko is oozing. So, it increase and decrease by water level of Lake Kawaguchiko.

The people who use the tap water increased, and then there are few people using the well after 1950. It was decided that Fujikawaguchiko-machi preserve the well as a Folklore historic spot in 1991, therefore the well is kept by the condition that is available for the use.
