Oshino Hakkai
Nationally designated natural monument
Oshino Hakkai is eight spring ponds located in Oshino Village next to Fujikawaguchiko Town. It was designated as a Japanese Natural Monument in 1934, and was registerd as a part of component parts of Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage in 2013.
The eight spring ponds in Oshino Hakkai are as follows. However, Nakaike pond (an artificial pond next to souvenir shop) is widely used as a symbolic photograph representing Mt.Fuji and Oshino Hakkai. *The main photo used on this page is Nakaike pond.
Eight spring ponds in Oshino Hakkai
- Deguchiike Pond
- Okamaike Pond
- Sokonashiike Pond
- Choshiike Pond
- Wakuike Pond
- Nigoriike Pond
- Kagamiike Pond
- Shobuike Pond
This circular pond in the center of Nakaike pond is also popular and very beautiful, but it is an artificial pond that has nothing to do with Oshino Hakkai. There is a very common tendency to mistake these ponds as one of Oshino Hakkai.
