Chureito Pagoda

Chureito Pagoda

The five-story pagoda at Arakurayama Sengen Park offers that popular landscape. Although it is a bit far from Lake Kawaguchiko, we highly recommend trying to capture the view if you have time.

Until a few years ago, the spot was only known locally. It first gained international attention as a place where you can photograph the three symbols of Japan—Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms, and a five-story pagoda—all at once. Since then, the number of domestic tourists has gradually increased, and it is now a famous spot for capturing Mount Fuji.

There are more foreign tourists than Japanese people, which makes me feel that this place is truly popular overseas. Many foreigners get on and off at the nearest station, “Shimoyoshida Station."

You will find the Chureito Pagoda after climbing 398 stone steps from the bottom entrance. We recommend a leisurely walk up to enjoy the view of Mount Fuji. Locally, these steps are a popular spot for student training, with some speedy runners completing the ascent in just two minutes! Give it a try if you have the energy!

Getting to the Chureito Pagoda

If you are going by car, there is a paid parking lot in Arakura Sengen Park, so you can park there and walk to the park. (Closed during the Cherry Blossom Festival)
*Click here for other parking information.

During the festival, temporary parking will be provided and free shuttles will operate.

If you go by train, it is about a 20-minute walk from Shimoyoshida Station on the Fujikyu Line.

If you pass by highway bus, you can see the Chureito Pagoda and the cherry blossom trees on the mountain slope beautifully from the highway, so don’t miss it!

Arakurayama Sengen Park “The Cherry Blossom Festival"
