Fuji View Hotel

This hotel was founded in 1936 and boasts a history of over 80 years. It is situated in a superb location on the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, overlooking Mount Fuji. In spring, the approximately 300 cherry trees in the hotel’s garden bloom profusely, attracting many tourists from far away who come to capture photos of Mount Fuji framed by the cherry blossoms.

Day-trip hot spring plans and restaurant use are also available, so if you have time, why not take a leisurely stop by?

History of the Hotel

Completed in 1936, this was the first Western-style hotel in Yamanashi Prefecture, built with the 1940 Tokyo Olympics in mind, despite the later cancellation of the hosting rights. The original hotel featured two observation towers on its roof. These two observation towers have been carried over and are maintained in the current, newly built exterior.

In the summer of 1944, during World War II, a group from the German Embassy, excluding a small communications team, evacuated to Fuji View Hotel due to the massive U.S. air raids on Tokyo.

Following the war, the hotel suspended its public operations from 1945 to 1958 and served primarily as a rest hotel for the U.S. military and their families.

The hotel is also famous for a visit by John Lennon’s family in 1978. John Lennon’s autograph is still displayed in the lobby today.
