Kifune shrine
Important cultural property of Fujikawaguchiko-machi
In 1223, the enshrined deity of Kifune shrine of Kifune-machi in Kyoto was transferred to this place and was worshiped.
God of the marine transportation was rare worship in the neighboring areas, so soldiers and their family came from the distant place and prayed for the safety in wartime. And then the soldiers crossed Lake Kawaguchiko by ship from the lakefront of Nagahama while receiving many send-off.
This area has been frequently victims of the flood of land put in a mountain and the lake. An enshrined deity was transferred from Kifune shrine with a long history in Kyoto to stave off such a flood damage.
This Kifune shrine has a history of approximately 800 years since erection. Therefore the hall of worship and the torii such as became deterioration. Examination of the repair began in 2009, and construction was completed in 2013. However, for the same period of the completion, the torii has been damaged by a traffic accident. So a situation without a torii continued for a while, but a new torii was completed in November, 2014.
