Statue of the Shinran saint

Shinran (1173-1262) arrived in the Azagawa of Kawaguchiko on the way to Kyoto from Kanto region. It is said that the day is dark on the way and he stayed in the house of Togawa Yahei who lives in Azagawa.

After that, the people of Azagawa were respectful of Shinran and built the Amida temple. There are two large ginkgo trees next to the temple, called “Shinran large ginkgo trees". The ginkgos are conveyed as the chopsticks (or cane) that Shinran used.
