22 recommended Mt.Fuji photo points

SSpeaking of Lake Kawaguchiko, the views of “Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossoms" at Ubuyagasaki and “Mount Fuji’s reflection in the lake" (Sakasa Fuji) are particularly well known. There are many other Mount Fuji photography spots. The view of Mount Fuji from Lake Kawaguchiko is stunning because its ridge line extends symmetrically from the summit.

From the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, you can see the spectacular ridge line extending all the way to the base of Mount Fuji. We encourage you to capture your own unique view of Mount Fuji at Lake Kawaguchiko. We have selected a few locations, including some that are not typically listed in guidebooks.

By the way, Mount Fuji’s first snowfall usually occurs from mid to late October, and you can see the mountain capped with snow by November. The snow cap on Mount Fuji typically remains from May into June, even after spring has arrived.

Near the parking lot of Hahano Shirataki fall

Although it is a bit far from Lake Kawaguchiko, we highly recommend visiting this spot. You can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Kawaguchiko, the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge, Unoshima Island, and Mount Fuji. It is only a 10-minute drive from Kawaguchi Asama Shrine. The expansive lake scenery, which is invisible from the lakeside, spreads out below you.

The recommended season is particularly July, when the greenery is vibrant. However, you can see wonderful scenery throughout every season. Please be aware that the road may freeze in winter.

Tenku-no Torii (Torii gate in the sky)

This spot is on the way to Hahano Shirataki Falls. We recommend stopping by on your way to the waterfall. Although it was initially maintained as a place for remote worship, it became a hot topic on social media, leading many people to flock to the area. Consequently, there are now some restricted areas, so please be careful not to enter them.

Fuji-san Deck

It is a large observation deck overlooking Mount Fuji. From the upper deck, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mount Fuji all the way down to its base. At the cafe on the upper deck, you can relax and enjoy a luxurious view of Mount Fuji.

There are also sofas outside, so we recommend spending time outdoors on a sunny day.

Top of Tenjoyama Mountain

You can reach the summit of Mount Tenjoyama by first taking the ropeway up to Tenjozan Park, and then hiking for about 20 minutes from there. We recommend making the trip if you have enough time.

You will enjoy a pleasant time with the refreshing atmosphere and beautiful scenery after the climb. Komitake Shrine is enshrined at the top of the mountain, facing Mount Fuji.

Tenjoyama Park

Tenjozan Park is located at the top of the ropeway. The view is unparalleled on a clear day; you can look down upon the cityscapes of Fujiyoshida City and Fujikawaguchiko Town, and overlook the magnificent Mount Fuji.

A hiking course starts from Tenjozan Park, allowing you to descend to the Funatsuhama parking lot at the base (or hike up, of course). This course is home to 100,000 hydrangeas, and we recommend visiting from mid-July, which is the best time to see them in bloom.

Promenade in front of the hotels on the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko

This area, lined with hotels along the lakeside, is an excellent Mount Fuji viewing spot. The walking path that stretches along the shore is always busy with many people enjoying the scenery.

The scenery featuring Mount Fuji with Mount Tenjo on the left is a beautiful view that has been popular for a long time.

Ubuyagasaki Shrine

This is the only spot in the area where you can photograph the shrine, Lake Kawaguchiko, and Mount Fuji all at the same time. It is a small shrine built on the hill of Ubuyagasaki, but its history is very old; it originated as a subordinate shrine of the Kawaguchi Asama Shrine, which was erected in 865 A.D.

Ubuyagasaki

When speaking of Mount Fuji at Lake Kawaguchiko, “Sakasa Fuji" (the upside-down reflection of Mt. Fuji) seen from Ubuyagasaki is particularly well known. Recently, a composition featuring the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge and Mount Fuji photographed together from this spot has become popular. It is now so famous that many foreign tourists are driven up here by tour bus.

By the way, the upside-down reflection of Mount Fuji is not a view seen only from Ubuyagasaki. If there is no wind and the lake is calm, you can see it at most places along the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko. You are most likely to see it early in the morning, right from daybreak.

Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge

The Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge has been selected as one of the 100 best roads in Japan, and the scenery is stunning. Since you can walk across the bridge, you can capture the magnificent view of Mount Fuji from various points along the way.

However, please be mindful of traffic while walking or taking photos. We occasionally see people taking pictures from the roadway, but please do not step onto the road itself, as it is extremely dangerous.

Excursion Ship “En Soleil”

From a boat on Lake Kawaguchiko, you can capture a view of Mount Fuji that is unavailable from the lakeside.

Momiji Tunnel

The “Momiji Tunnel" is a location where the composition of Japanese maple and Mount Fuji is splendid. In addition to autumn, which is the peak season for colored leaves, other seasons are also highly recommended.

You can enjoy the refreshing view of Mount Fuji when the Japanese maples are green. We especially recommend visiting in early summer when the fresh leaves have fully sprouted.

Oishi Park

The view of Mount Fuji seen from Oishi Park is very beautiful, featuring perfectly balanced ridges on the left and right. In this park, various flowers bloom every season, and it is always crowded with tourists and photographers.

The recommended season is during the Herb Festival, where you can see lavender carpets. However, the true beauty of Oishi Park is that it offers stunning scenery regardless of the time of year.

Flowers road in Oishi Park

The Flower Road extending west of Oishi Park is also a perfect place to beautifully photograph Mount Fuji. Canola flowers begin to bloom from late April, and you can enjoy the road’s variety of seasonal flowers throughout the year.

In autumn, you can see a carpet of red Kokia (summer cypress) at the end of the Flower Road. The combination of this vibrant red Kokia and Mount Fuji is also very popular.

Nagasaki Park

If you want to capture “THE Mount Fuji"—the classic, unobstructed view featuring only the mountain and the lake—this is the perfect spot. It is located on a peninsula that juts out into the lake, meaning there is nothing to block the scenery. The opposite shore is flat and free of tall buildings. Furthermore, you can see the longest stretch of Mount Fuji’s symmetrical ridgeline extending to the left and right.

Near the Nagasaki Tunnel

As you approach the Nagasaki Tunnel, the magnificent Mount Fuji suddenly comes into view. In July, a 200-meter stretch of hydrangea flowers lines the road. It is also a perfect photography spot during the cherry blossom season.

Momiji-Kairo(Japanese Maple Corridor)

The “Momiji Kairo" (Maple Corridor), the main venue for the Fujikawaguchiko Maple Festival, is a spot where you can capture Mount Fuji beautifully. It is stunning, especially during the autumn foliage season, but is also highly recommended during the season of fresh green leaves.

Promenade near the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum

The brick promenade that leads from Kawaguchiko Circle Hall to the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art is the perfect place to take a leisurely walk while enjoying the view of Mount Fuji.

You can capture stunning photos of Mount Fuji from any point on the promenade. As you get closer to the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art, you can also include the majestic Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge in your frame.

Yagisaki Park

Yagizaki Park is popular as the main venue for the Herb Festival. However, there are not many spots where you can see Mount Fuji clearly because the park is located on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko. From the observation deck near the Kawaguchiko Muse Museum at the edge of the park, you can capture a wide-open view of Mount Fuji.

In addition, the cherry blossom trees are truly wonderful in spring; the park has the largest number of cherry trees around Lake Kawaguchiko.

Unoshima Island

You can only visit Unoshima Island during its annual festival; otherwise, you must arrange your own boat transportation. Consequently, photographs of Mount Fuji taken from Unoshima Island can be quite rare. From the island, you can photograph Mount Fuji with the trees of the Fuji Omuro Sengen Shrine’s precincts framed on the left.

Mt.Koyodai

Koyodai, located in the mountains south of Lake Saiko, is far from the city, allowing you to see the Aokigahara Jukai Forest and the base of Mount Fuji stretching below. From Koyodai, you feel a direct connection to Mount Fuji and can fully appreciate the vastness of the Aokigahara Jukai.

In autumn, you can see the beautiful colors of the foliage, living up to the spot’s name, “Koyodai" (Autumn Leaves Plateau).

Chureito Pagoda

Although it has recently become a classic popular spot, it is still highly recommended as a place to capture stunning photos of Mount Fuji and the Five-Storey Pagoda. It would be wonderful if you could include cherry blossoms (“Sakura") in your photo, but timing your visit to coincide with the bloom and good weather is quite difficult. You would be extremely lucky to capture all three together in one shot.

The spot is located in Fujiyoshida City, and it is a 15-minute drive from Lake Kawaguchiko.

Kawaguchiko Station

As you head to Kawaguchiko Station by train, Mount Fuji gradually grows larger, which is quite exciting. Upon arriving at the station, a huge Mount Fuji appears right in front of you, and everyone spontaneously starts taking pictures.

However, there are very few clear spots for beautiful photos, as the area around Kawaguchiko Station is cluttered with many electric wires and signboards. While the station building itself is beautiful, the view can be disappointing. But if you get creative with your camera angles, you can find spots where the wires are avoided. Please try to adjust your angle to capture both the station and Mount Fuji in your photograph.
